22/02/2022.- We would like to invite you to the public launching of a new book titled Catholic Peacebuilding and Mining: Integral Peace, Development and Ecology. The book is the result of a multiyear and multifaceted initiative by Catholic Peacebuilding Network on the interconnections between peace, conflict, and extractives. Drawing together theology, ethics, and praxis, the volume reflects the diversity of Catholic action on mining and the importance of an integrated approach.
It includes contributions by an international and interdisciplinary range of scholars and practitioners. They examine Catholic action on mining in El Salvador, Peru, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the Philippines. They also address general issues of corporate social responsibility, human rights, development, ecology, and peacebuilding.
Among the contributors there are two fellow Jesuits: Rigobert Minani SJ, a congolese Jesuit who is currently the team leader of the Ecclesial Network of the Congo Basin Forest (REBAC) and director of Jesuit Social Ministry in DRC and Angola; and Elias Opongo SJ, director of the Center for Research, Training and Publications of the Hakima University in Nairobi, Kenya.
The book is available as an open-access e-book. Meaning it is available for free in electronic form for anyone who should want to read it.
If you would be interested, please feel free to also join any of the two virtual book launch events. One is being hosted by the University of Notre Dame’s Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies, on Feb. 22, at 4:00 pm EST/ 9:00 pm GMT.
