16.10.2025. We are pleased to invite you to the launch of the new document Catholic Approaches to Mining: A Framework for Reflection, Planning and Action. This document is designed for Catholic communities, dioceses and social organisations facing the ethical, social and ecological challenges associated with mining. Prepared by Séverine Deneulin (Laudato Si’ Research Institute, Oxford) and Caesar A. Montevecchio (Catholic Peacebuilding Network / University of Notre Dame), the text is the result of an extensive international consultation process coordinated by the LSRI and the CNP, in collaboration with the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame, the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development and Caritas Internationalis.
Between November 2024 and March 2025, regional meetings and workshops were held with Church leaders, affected communities, and experts in socio-environmental justice. The process culminated in a meeting in Bogotá in June 2025, where a shared vision was consolidated on how the Church and Catholic organisations can more effectively accompany communities affected by mining and promote a just transition.
